Your Host Family

How We Screen Host Families

Your host family is screened just as carefully as you are, they submit a detailed application outlining what they are looking for in a au pair, they also submit references which are verified and undergo a background check, they have an interview with a local area director. AmeriAuPair only work with host families who can provide a comfortable and supportive environment for their au pair. We want to ensure that great au pairs are matched with great families. You will play a big part in the placing process when it comes to finding your perfect family.

Your host family is responsible for the following:

  • Provide you with a private bedroom
  • Ensuring your working hours are no more than 45 per week, and no more than 10 hours per day
  • Limiting your responsibilities to childcare and light housekeeping related to the children
  • Paying you a weekly stipend and provide an educational allowance to take local classes

Your Interview

The interview is a chance for you and your potential host family to learn more about each other. The family will share information about their children, values, and community. You will have the chance to share your background, childcare experience, and what you hope to gain from the experience.

You may have interview’s with one family or several to find a compatible match. Once you and your family have selected each other, AmeriAuPair will help you with all the arrangements from completing  the visa paperwork, making the necessary travel arrangements, and scheduling you for the orientation and training programmes.
